James G. Conn aka Tartan Composer is a composer of classical and multi-genre music. 

He plays piano, keyboards and synthesiser, electric, acoustic and bass guitars, ukelele, recorders and tin-whistles, drums, percussion and sings.

MUSICAL WORKS

Over a period of fifty plus years, he has played in various iterations of duos, trios, four and five piece bands and a mini-orchestra which toured the USA. 

His background was in pop, rock, progressive rock as a singing drummer / songwriter / arranger and band leader.

Over the years he concentrated on creating songs and tunes in various genres such as pop, rock, funk, soul and country,  ballads and also celtic folk-fusion.

CLASSICAL WORKS

 In the classical music genre, he has created short  pieces  for solo instruments and longer works for full orchestra such as: The Jarnage Suite, Hey Toro, The Muse, The Un-fettered Mind, A Sea Turtle's Journey, Sisyphus etc. He has also written Dragonfly for solo Trumpet, Tears and Joy & Chiaroscuro, for solo Viola and the dark and sombre Cattle Car to Buchenwald for solo Violoncello.

MULTI-GENRE WORK

Throughout his music career, TC has composed hundreds of songs,recorded two  cassette albums, in the early 1970s and three  CD albums   in different genres.

STAGE MUSICAL

He completed a two year project, including writing the story, libretto and music, culminating in a Victorian stage musical,  "Queen of the Street" recorded at the HQ  Studio in Glasgow, Scotland.

FILM COLLABORATION

Through his friendship with English independent film maker Katherine King of 'Hidden Film UK' he created the intro, incidental and closing credits music for the film 'DORA'S HUSBAND' (shown on the VIMEO website) a comedy short which premiered at the prestigious Sedona International Film Festival.

The Tartan Composer podcast series currently totalling thirty seven in all, can be heard on WWW.SPREAKER.COM and on various social media hosting platforms.

YOU TUBE CURRENT SHOWS

Tartan Composer currently has two main channels on You Tube: #1 the TC MUSIC SHOW, where he interviews guest musicians from different genres including pop, rock, jazz, country, opera and orchestral. 

These also include the show 'SPECIALS' highlighting composers and different musical genres. 

YOU TUBE PAST SHOWS

These include the Newbie Muso Show, an instrument/equipment review and advice show for new musicians.

This channel features the previous varied  musical output of  TC's alter ego, songwriter Jamie Gallacher.

LITERARY OUTPUT

In addition to his musical skillls, he is a published author,  blogger and playwright. His book genres  include Fantasy, Horror, Poetry and Tarot as well as a DIY guide for musicians and a Handbook for Composers.

PLAYS

JG Conn has written fifty different plays and his current published plays include drama, comedy and romance.  

RESIDENCE

Tartan Composer currently resides in the Costa Blanca region of Spain with his full time multi-media artist / crafter / creator  wife Maureen and his dog Bonny.
